Job Purpose:

Provides high‑quality operational and execution‑focused engineering support as part of a project taskforce, ensuring safe, efficient, and predictable execution of engineering and operational activities in accordance with company standards, procedures, and HSE requirements.

 

Based onshore, the Operations Engineer plans, prepares, and supports execution‑phase activities, acting as the link between engineering, operations, and project management. The role ensures that engineering solutions are translated into practical, executable plans and that operational risks are identified and managed.

 

At senior level, the role supports complex execution environments, provides operational decision support, and contributes to safe and efficient offshore and yard execution.           

Job Description:

  • Operational Planning & Readiness

    • Leads preparation of operational plans, execution sequences, and readiness activities
    • Develops and reviews operational procedures, work instructions, and task plans
    • Ensures equipment, documentation, and interfaces are ready for execution

    Execution & Operational Support

    • Provides engineering support during execution phases, including offshore or yard activities
    • Supports operational troubleshooting, deviation handling, and change management
    • Reviews execution data, reports, and logs to identify risks or improvement opportunities

    HSE & Risk Management

    • Leads and contributes to operational risk assessments (e.g. HAZOP, SJA, task risk assessments, readiness reviews)
    • Ensures compliance with HSE requirements and promotes safe ways of working
    • Identifies emerging operational risks and drives corrective actions

    Coordination & Communication

    • Acts as engineering interface toward operations, project management, suppliers, and clients
    • Supports planning, readiness, and post‑job review meetings
    • Ensures clear communication of operational status, risks, and priorities
  • Operational & Execution Support

    • Provides engineering support during execution phases, including operational troubleshooting and deviation handling
    • Supports offshore or yard activities when required by project scope
    • Contributes to post‑job reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives

    Learning & Continuous Improvement

    • Drives capture of lessons learned and improvement actions from execution
    • Supports development of operational best practices and standard solutions
    • Guides and supports less experienced engineers in execution‑focused roles

 

  • Willingness to travel when required to support project execution (e.g. supplier follow‑up, testing, yard stay, or offshore support).

 

You are meant for this job if:

Required knowledge / formal education

  • BSc or MSc in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Marine, Subsea, Petroleum, Offshore/Ocean Engineering, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of execution‑focused engineering and operational environments
  • Relevant experience from offshore, marine, or field‑based project execution
  • Knowledge of operational risk management, procedures, and HSE requirements
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); Norwegian is an advantage

Preferred experience (not mandatory)

  • Experience with operational planning, readiness activities, and execution support
  • Offshore or yard experience supporting installation, intervention, or marine operations
  • Experience from coiled tubing, wireline, or riserless light well intervention (RLWI) operations, including planning, preparation, or offshore support
  • Familiarity with development and use of operational procedures, work instructions, and execution sequences
  • Experience leading or participating in readiness reviews, SIMOPS assessments, and task risk assessments
  • Exposure to execution follow‑up, reporting, and post‑job reviews

Interpersonal skills

  • Clear, structured communicator, especially under operational pressure
  • Strong collaboration skills with offshore crews, project teams, and suppliers
  • Proactive, pragmatic, and execution‑focused mindset
  • Able to balance safety, quality, and schedule in real‑world operations
  • Trusted and professional in operational and client‑facing situations

Technical / problem‑solving skills

  • Good understanding of how engineering solutions are executed in practice
  • Ability to translate engineering deliverables into safe and workable operational plans
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to identify emerging operational risks
  • Structured and pragmatic approach to deviation handling and troubleshooting
  • Comfortable working with operational documentation, reports, and execution data

Managerial skills

  • Strong planning, prioritization, and follow‑through
  • Ability to manage multiple operational interfaces and priorities
  • Supports and guides less experienced engineers in execution‑focused roles
