Job Purpose
- Provides operational support related to welding, cladding process engineering and qualification necessary to meet engineering needs. Ensures that welded parts meet specifications, standards and performance requirements within area of expertise. Supports daily needs of manufacturing as an engineering resource.
Job Description
- Prepares, manage, coordinate welding procedure qualification and welder qualification tests meeting project requirements.
- Review supplier welding procedures, processes, and documentation.
- Ensure that manufacturers comply with Clients requirements and applicable International rules, codes, standards and procedures.
- Reviews the Client technical documentation and all relevant legislation, standards and codes requirements
- Understand fabrication drawings, drawing and NDT symbols.
- Understand requirements of codes of construction such as ASME Sec IX, AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3, DNV OS F101 etc.
- Understand the causes of occurrence of weld defects including distortion and advise ways to eliminate them.
- Understand the operation of welding equipment and troubleshoot simple problems.
- Using various welding gauges, contact thermocouples, ferrite meter, clad thickness gauge to monitoring weld dimensions and quality.
- Motivate welders to achieve consistently good quality welds.
- Help identify location of defects in welds so that they can removed prior to repair.
- To record welders assignments in terms of qualifications on materials and processes, and ensure that code requirements are complied with.
- To advise ways to improve productivity and quality.
- To ensure that welding consumable storage meets industry norms, customer requirements company procedures or manufacturer recommendation as applicable.

- Provide mentorship, coaching and support, as required, to other more junior team members.
- Lead the development of systems or procedures and delivery of excellence.
- Assist Welding Engineering Manager to identify, develop and improve tools, equipment or systems to enable effective product delivery.
- Evaluate lessons learned for similar projects and ensure improvements implemented to other projects.
- Establish and maintain procedures for production welding and welding personnel, to ensure compliance with specifications, processes, and heating requirements.
- Respond to Client and Vendor technical queries based on project or contract requirement.
- Provide technical support for technical clarifications and deviations.
- Perform Gap Analysis of relevant welding industries standard or TechnipFMC welding specification meet process.
- Perform the readiness task as per Manufacturing readiness level (MRL).
You are meant for this job if:
- Degree in Mechanical or Welding Engineering or Materials & Metallurgy with IWE certification and 5 years of experience in fabrication/manufacturing shop
- Working knowledge of welding processes (strong working knowledge of TIG), qualifications and related Industry Codes on welding
- Working knowledge of structural and material properties, e.g. carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and their application – Some experience of materials selection
- NDT Level II desirable in any two methods
- 6 years’ experience in welding engineering, structural fabrication, pressure vessel, quality, non-destructive examination for all types of oil and gas contracts
- Experience in oilfield equipment and knowledge in ASTM, ASME IX, API and NACE standards will be distinctly advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to independently create and implement functional and cost-effective processes that meet complex specification requirements.
- General understanding of internal economic factors (cost, margins, profit impact of decisions) affecting assignment areas. Good oral and written communication skills
- Tact in dealing with welders to motivate for better performance.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Spends 50% of time in a temperature-controlled office environment and 50% of time in shop. May be exposed to possible shop hazards including heavy machinery, high noise level and chemicals.
- Frequent sitting and operating a computer. Fast paced atmosphere with multiple priorities and constant change. Frequent standing, walking, bending and stooping.
