Principal Umbilicals Engineer

Job Purpose
Responsible for the technical package management on dedicated projects and mentorship across the umbilical engineering department. Responsible for the management of high impact topics across all live projects and provide technical support and guidance at a project technical leadership level with support of the lead engineer where required. Responsible for the content and quality of umbilical engineering activities including management and co-ordination of task related improvements and level 3 / level 4 obeya.
Job Description
- At technical authority level, provide support to Post Award teams throughout the life cycle of the project. Including but not limited to supporting:
▪ Strategy setting at project kick-off
▪ Technical risk identification, reviews, communication to PMA and closure
▪ Non-conformance closure
▪ Design rule and project concessions
▪ Approval status of for any umbilical engineering assessment within design rule limits and umbilical cross section designs.
- Management and close out of technical topics and work with other leads to ensure balance and support across the wider department.
- Responsible for development and integration of new technologies, templates, calculations and tools to improve efficiency and quality.
- On job training and mentorship of engineers at all levels within the PMA.
- Working with Pre-award team, ensure a smooth handover of tender and feed projects to contract award.
- Drive Company initiatives with the umbilical team in conjunction with other leads and Post Award Engineering Manager
- Where appropriate and as directed, take actions to comply with the group expectations to meet the code of experts’ requirement.
You are meant for this job if:
Essential
- Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline – preferably Mechanical Engineering, Subsea Engineering.
- Relevant experience of the offshore industry and in the detailed design of umbilical systems or engineering background with experience of the offshore industry and in the detailed design of umbilical systems. Or general engineering background with relevant experience of the offshore industry and in the detailed design of umbilical systems.
- Vast knowledge of industry standards relating to umbilical design and subsea industry.
- Significant experience problem solving and working in high pace environments
- Proficient in software such as Orcaflex
- Proficient in Microsoft office tool such as word, excel and PowerPoint
Desirable
- Experience delivering against challenging schedules in a project management environment is essential.
- Experience within Dynamic Inter-Array Cables
- Experience leading a team and effective workload management
- Experience with engineering tool such as MathCAD or equivalent.
- Experience in design tool is not required but beneficial, such as: AutoCAD, Inventor
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis Tools is not required but beneficial, such as: Ansys, Abaqus, Orcaflex.
- Experience with Lean practices and has a drive for improvements
- Experience with Design for Safety and high quality practices
