Job Purpose

At TechnipFMC we are now recruiting for a Materials and Corrosion Engineer in Newcastle Upon Tyne to support technically the pre and post award activities linked to TFMC products lines, including Umbilicals system for material and fabrication disciplines.

Sitting within the Core Technologies Centre of Expertise Metallic Group, the successful candidate will gain access to a worldwide network of information, expertise and experiences providing the opportunity to develop new skills and acquire knowledge to become a Subject Matter Expert in their field.

 

The COE Materials and Corrosion Engineer shall provide technical metallic material engineering advice, including corrosion, materials selection, and training to support the projects (pre & post award) for global technology group across the business including umbilical's operating site and other job responsibilities as appropriate. 
 

Job Description

  • Provide corrosion and metallic materials technical support to the Umbilicals Engineering and Manufacturing teams, providing input to Non-conformance investigations, problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Review materials documentations for projects specific and customer requirements, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Conduct materials assessment, corrosion and metallic testing / analyses activities for projects and qualification purposes.
  • Generate and develop technical reports, design guidelines, instructions, procedures, specifications, and relevant documentation associated with the metallic materials selections, corrosion, corrosion prevention mechanism and inspection.
  • Maintain knowledge on newly developing materials, and corrosion mitigation measures to identify opportunities for product improvement and R&D projects.
  • Run materials qualification and carry out Suppliers technical audits.
  • Execute Research and Development projects on new areas of development for umbilical's and other products part of TFMC systems.
  • Interface with design, project, fabrication, and production teams to ensure best practice and client specifications are applied to all stages of the live project.
  • Deliver training and awareness presentations as required.
  • Participate in consolidation and development activities associated with COE materials to support Simplification, Standardisation and Industrialisation (SSI) initiatives.
  • Act as the material engineering consultant for the umbilicals system and the rest of TFMC products providing technical expertise on materials engineering, fabrication, and inspection techniques.

You are meant for this job if:

Essential

  • Qualified to BEng/MEng or BSc/MSc in Materials Science, Corrosion or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of corrosion and metallurgical properties of metallic materials.
  • Basic understanding of coating, NDE, welding.
  • Display a desire to learn new knowledge and skills to become a subject matter expert.
  • Proven ability to effectively organise workload, in addition to taking responsibility and ownership of their own and the team’s works.
  • Up-to-date industry knowledge to provide and maximise process safety.
  • Connect across cultures/countries.
  • Demonstrate continuous process improvement orientation.

Desirable

  • MSc/PhD in corrosion/material or metallurgy can be considered as a plus.
  • Experience in offshore / subsea industry is beneficial.
