SECOND ENGINEER

Job Purpose
The Second Engineer (Second Engineer / 1OM) on board PLSV's is in charge of supervising, planning and coordinating daily activities at the engine room department. He/she must ensure the Chief Engineer is kept fully informed on all activities and developments of the engine room and that no major repair or maintenance is carried out without his/her approval.
Job Description
- Cooperate with the Chief Engineer, Vessel Management Team and HSE Representative, assuring that all technical activities under his/her jurisdiction are carried out in a safe and healthy manner and that the impact from operations for the engine department to the environment is within acceptable limits
- Implement and check compliance with the requirements from the Safety Management System and of the Health, Safety and Environment System, reviewing systems and reporting eventual deficiencies.
- Operate, maintain and repair as required all pieces of equipment that fall under the scope of the Engine Department.
- Application of policies, rules and regulations of the company, local rules and regulations applicable to the engine department
- Motivate the engine crew in the observation of policies, rules and standards of the Company
- Issue clear and unequivocal instructions for Engineers
- Apply requirements of the Client concerning safety and environmental as applicable to the engine department.
- Aid the Chief Engineer in assuring supplies and spare parts and keep sufficient storage levels on board in order to ensure operational capacities and the safety of the vessel are not compromised
- Make sure specific knowledge and experience are communicated and shared with all department personnel
