Job Purpose
The Second Officer (2ON) of PLSVs acts as DPO, depending on his experience and qualifications, when the vessel is in Dynamic Positioning mode. He assumes the conventional 2ON duties when the vessel is not engaged in DP operations, reporting to the Chief Officer or Safety Officer. The DPO will be supervised during the watch by a Senior DP Operator.
Job Description
- Support the Chief Officer in the ship’s maintenance program, ensuring that safety, life-saving and fire-fighting equipment is ready for use. Will ensure that navigation and radio equipment is up to date and well maintained;
- Maintain a safe navigational watch at sea, at anchor and when operating on DP operations; Ensure that all life-saving and fire-fighting equipment is maintained;
- Ensure that all navigational equipment is in working order. Prepare the bridge for sea as required by statute and report equipment defects;
- Ensure that all navigational publications and charts are corrected to date and that navigational alerts are displayed;
- Act as Helicopter Landing Officer when required, provided valid training is held;
- Assists the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Representative and the Doctor as required, with familiarization courses for incoming personnel and other personnel;
- Assists the HSE Representative in his/her duties, ensuring that posted safety posters are up to date, safety information is distributed, and assists with Safety Committee matters as Safety Secretary, if required;
- Reviews Safety Notices, BMOS Circulars files and the BMOS Business Management System (BMS) Amendment file in the current version of the BMOS DRB, upon embarkation and disembarkation;
- Is designated as GMDSS Operator;
- Ensures that all navigation equipment is in proper working order. Prepares the Bridge for sea as required by statute and reports equipment defects;
- Assists the Vessel Master in maintaining the BMOS Management System;
You are meant for this job if:
- Higher Education completed in Nautical Sciences.
- Experience operating DP2 or DP3 vessels.
- Professional registration required: Certificate of Competence (COC) - II/1 – IV/2
- CIR – 2ON (Second Nautical Officer)
