Job Purpose

This position reports to the Operations Controller in our Finance Department in Houston, Texas

Job Description

  • Finance Expertise & Reporting: Serve as a finance subject matter expert for freight and duties, prepare utilization reports, and analyze month-end reporting and processes.
  • Cost Analysis & Variance Investigation: Calculate burden and labor rates, investigate variances, analyze work order variances, and drive corrective actions with Operations.
  • Cost Management & Updates: Support standard cost updates for new parts and engineering changes, track and report scrap, rework, and warranty costs, and assist with annual and ad-hoc physical inventory counts and reconciliations.
  • Project & Job Costing: Review and validate project/job costing for major contracts, investigate and explain Purchase Price Variances (PPV) monthly, and track and report freight and duty costs against budget.
  • Transition & Impact Analysis: Support transition activities from standard cost to moving average cost (MAC) methodology, analyze the impact of moving average costing on inventory valuation and cost of sales, and assist in preparing simulation models to evaluate financial impacts.
  • Training & Process Improvement: Train operational personnel to ensure compliance with financial standards, make recommendations on process improvement initiatives, and analyze cost trends.

You are meant for this job if:

  • Educational Background: BA/BS in Finance or Accounting; CPA/CMA/MBA preferred.
  • Experience: At least five years of related experience; manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Accounting Knowledge: Thorough understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency with spreadsheets and solid SAP experience.
  • Analytical Abilities: Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Independence & Problem Solving: Ability to work independently and solve complex problems with minimal supervision.
  • Communication & Leadership: Strong communication skills with employees, managers, and upper management; advanced interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Professionalism & Time Management: Detail-oriented, organized, well-developed time management skills, motivated self-starter, and professional attitude.
