Job Purpose

 

In the TechnipFMC Subsea Drilling Products Value Stream, we create unique value in the subsea wellhead market by developing and supporting innovative solutions to solve the most difficult challenges. Projects go through the whole life-cycle, including front end support, conceptual development, detailed design, validation, prototyping, and industrialization of innovative solutions. We are looking for a senior engineer with a focus on detailed mechanical design who can join our talented and diverse team in Houston, Texas.  

Job Description

  • Works in a small team to develop new products and industrialize existing equipment for the subsea drilling product line
  • Defines the attributes, requirements, and specifications for new products
  • Engages with the entire value stream to ensure effective cost, manufacturing and operation.
  • Performs hand-calculations and FEA to support design work
  • Presents to customers and multi-disciplined audiences
  • Creates prototypes of new products throughout the design process and evolution
  • No direct reports, but expected to mentor and lead projects with less experienced engineers
  • Tracks spend, budget, and forecasted costs and schedule for personal projects
  • Executes prototype and final qualification testing in a shop/lab environment
  • Reports directly to the Subsea Drilling Services Value Stream NPD/PLM Engineering Manager

 

You are meant for this job if:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or applicable discipline, with at least eight (8) years of related experience. Previous drilling related experience preferred. 
  • Focus on detailed mechanical design and offshore operations (i.e., subsea running tools, pressure vessels, and metal and elastomer seals) with a sound understanding of engineering practices, design methods & calculations. 
  • Understanding of economic factors (cost, profit, impact of decisions) affecting product developments along with knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, qualification, and test processes. 
  • Able to read, interpret and prepare technical designs and documentation. 
  • Able to work with a global team to solve and implement complex solutions into an existing product line. 
  • Familiarity with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) methods, when to apply FEA, and ability to interpret results. Ability of perform FEA preferred, but not required. 
  • Experience with modeling software such as AutoCAD or NX
  • Experience with ANSYS, PowerBI, and Parsable preferred 
  • Working knowledge of API 6A/17D is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Spend 80 - 90 percent of time in an office environment and 10 -20% in shop or field environment supporting RCAs or offshore downtime events. Hybrid work environment and setup.
  • Office environment requires sitting, operating a computer, walking and some lifting. Hands-on labor in shop and/or field environment, which requires lifting, walking, stooping, bending, and some climbing.
