Advisor, Employee Relations and Compliance

Job Purpose
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Employee Relations & Compliance and is based in Houston, TX. Part of the North America People & Culture team, the Employee Relations & Compliance (ER&C) Advisor supports operations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, and Guyana. The ER&C Advisor serves as the primary investigator for employee relations concerns that are reported through our Integrity Helpline and plays an impactful role in ensuring adherence to relevant labor laws and managing positive employee relations. Build and maintain a comprehensive view of the HR Compliance & Employee Relations landscape within which TechnipFMC operates in North America and, in partnership with the People & Culture leadership in North America and the internal Legal and Compliance. The primary mission of the role is to support TechnipFMC in operating in compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations, throughout multiple state locations and business entities, and making fair and balanced recommendations at the conclusion of internal investigations.
Job Description
- Provide proactive, high-quality support and consultancy to business leaders and HR Business Partners, ensuring effective management of employee relations (ER) risks and issues through clear, customer-focused communication.
- Advise and counsel HR Business Partners and business leaders on disciplinary matters, reviewing documentation to ensure alignment with company policies and legal standards.
- Conduct detailed, unbiased investigations into employee complaints, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, particularly in states like California and Colorado.
- Counsel employees on work-related matters and assist in resolving issues through professional guidance and application of company policies.
- Monitor changes in legislation affecting HR policies, contribute to Affirmative Action Planning, Drug Testing compliance, and regulatory postings like EEO-1, partnering with Legal as needed.
- Support HR Compliance & Employee Relations initiatives, including training, policy alignment, and issue management, collaborating with the People & Culture and Legal teams on compliance strategies.
- Review and analyze employee relations cases to identify trends, potential risks, and development opportunities, proposing solutions to address key findings.
- Build and maintain relationships with managers, colleagues, and business unit leaders, serving as a subject matter expert and supporting other duties as assigned.
You are meant for this job if:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Labor Law, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Business or related field required.
- HRCI or SHRM certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five years of work-related experience in human resources and employee relations, including conducting investigations.
- Strong understanding of employment laws, regulations, and key government agencies such as FMLA, ADAAA, OFCCP, DOL, and EEOC, with the ability to educate teams and make relevant recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion with confidential company and employee information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ER Case Management Systems.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes related to employment, equal opportunity, affirmative action, and employee relations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage all organizational levels and facilitate training on employee relations and compliance topics.
- Ability to build rapport, gain credibility, and partner with leaders and stakeholders across the organization.
- Team-oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills, understanding the company’s structure, culture, and business objectives.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the country where the position is located and be able to interview on site. Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the country, without sponsorship.
Work Environment
- Frequent sitting and operating a computer or workstation.
- Occasional travel, primarily domestic, required up to 25% of time.
- Primarily office-environment with occasional shop or field environment exposure for policy development context and/or internal investigations.
- Hybrid work schedule: 3 days on site in Houston, Texas; 2 days from home, optional.
