Job Purpose
The Schilling Robotics business unit develops complex electro-mechanical robotics and teleoperated vehicles for use in the deep ocean. As a Quality and Reliability Engineer you will be responsible for objectives and tasks that measure and improve the quality and reliability of new and existing products, produced both internally and at suppliers, for Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV’s), robotic manipulators, and subsea control systems. This position works collaboratively with other departments such as Engineering, Operations, Safety, QA, and Customer Support to improve product performance and ensure our products exceed customer expectations.
Job Description
- Facilitate a "design for the test" approach to product design and development. Determine tests and other criteria to qualify new and revised product designs. Execute tests, track progress, and report results.
- Participate on failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) teams and use mathematical models to identify high risk components and support mitigation plans.
- Participate with engineers in design reviews on material use, corrosion prevention, and reliability.
- Assist in developing and maintaining an efficient and reliable BOM and drawing generation process.
- Ability to analyze failed parts and determine failure modes by researching material content, mechanical design, and manufacturing anomalies. Work with outside labs for failure analysis testing.
- Assess supplier quality and reliability practices and drive improvement.
- Assess suppliers’ or in-house fabrication processes to identify, measure, and control the critical to quality features.
- Working closely with an assigned set of vendors to continuously improve the quality of our parts.
You are meant for this job if:
- Minimum of BS in Engineering, or related field.
- 3-7 years quality, process, and/or supplier development experience, preferably in the subsea industry.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems and components.
- Basic knowledge of metallurgy and materials science.
- Experience with statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and qualification testing.
- Strong communication, influencing and collaboration skills with all levels of the organization, suppliers and customers.
- Steadfast attitude of working safe and maintaining a safe environment.
- Ability to travel to various sites and work independently or within unfamiliar groups.

Additional Skills
- Corrosion and Materials Engineering experience and knowledge.
- Offshore, ROV system & subsystem knowledge, highly desirable.
- Experience with measurement tools and equipment and knowledge of measurement techniques.
- Engineering level technical and working knowledge of subsea product functions and design.
- Experience in developing and auditing new suppliers to continuously advance capability in producing new technologies to support product supply or quality and reliability improvements.
- A firm understanding of engineering, document control, quality and safety processes.
- Knowledge of quality systems and certification, specifically ISO 9001:2015
