Hiring Product Improvement Manager for the Davis, CA location!  

The Schilling Robotics business unit develops complex electro-mechanical robotics and teleoperated vehicles for use in the deep ocean. The Product Improvement Manager will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to improve performance, reliability, cost or safety of existing products. This requires the application of structured problem solving techniques to resolve complex electro-mechanical issues.

Job Description

  • Understand and direct technical projects and manage issues across multiple disciplines
  • Lead cross-functional teams and technical personnel
  • Apply structure problem solving techniques to resolve problems
  • Determine best course of action for completion of assignments and establishment of priorities within assigned work areas
  • Coordinate Product Improvement review sessions and track progress and cost of multiple projects
  • Reports project status to a cross-functional group including customer service, manufacturing, sales, and purchasing
  • Adherence to various engineering, documentation, quality and safety standards (ISO, IPC, etc.)
  • Continuously improve the processes and systems used to manage product improvement work
  • Provides leadership, career development, technical guidance, training and performance feedback to direct reports
  • Creates short term and long term staffing plans for the team
  • Adheres to the approved budget
  • Interfaces directly with customers to provide technical guidance
  • Other duties, as assigned

You are meant for this job if:

  • Minimum of BS in Engineering, or related field
  • 10 years engineering experience in product development; preferable in the subsea industry
  • 2 years in engineering lead or management role

 

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • MS degree in related discipline.
  • Knowledge of real time operating systems, robotics, Linux. 
  • Experience utilizing Lean Engineering techniques. 
  • Ability to create strategic intent and communicate it in way that is clear and motivating to other managers, project teams, and individual contributors
  • Ability to identify on the ground needs and communicate them in a way that influences business unit leadership. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, listen and speak for long periods of time. 
  • Manual dexterity using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pull, reach, grab, hold, and lift. 
  • Wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and other personal protective equipment as needed. 
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. 
  • Frequent use of PC.
  • Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such a viewing computer screens and reading. 

Salary and Benefits

Salary  $101,000-$187,600
