Job Purpose
The Vessel Operations Manager is responsible of managing a fleet of vessels on behalf of VSO, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and cost-effective assets that meet customer requirements and expectations. This role involves leading a multi-disciplined team to maintain vessel systems integrity, marine integrity, and operational efficiency, ensuring the successful delivery of assets to the Business Units (BUs).
Job Description
- To ensure that the fleet is ‘fit for purpose’ with respect to the Group’s subsea strategy and anticipated business opportunities
- Responsible for improving the operational performance of the fleet (to optimise the number of days available) through the efficient management / oversight of Marine, Operations and Technical Services and the optimum use of Fleet Projects support
- To ensure the efficient, timely and ‘on budget’ execution of maintenance projects affecting the availability of the assets, including both marine and asset systems maintenance
- To liaise closely with ROV, Equipment and OPS departments to ensure the fleet has the equipment and personnel it needs to fulfil its obligations to the RBU’s
- To collaborate with other VSO vessel managers with a view to optimising the number of people required to maintain and operate the VSO fleet
- Working closely with New Projects and MNB to contribute to the specification of new vessels for the fleet, particularly those falling under VSO Vessel Manager’s specific asset type
- Responsible for leading and managing the Asset Operations personnel with a view to enabling them to more efficiently and effectively discharge their responsibilities
- To play a meaningful and valued role in the general management of the VSO Directorate, including the efficient and effective management of Regional Asset Operations activity – assisting and advising the VSO Director Vessel Execution where appropriate
- Ensure assets are manned by competent crew, and that succession plans are established and in place for all offshore personnel designated to the assets under their control
- To ensure that the vessels are maintained fit for purpose and consistently meet the requirements as set within the organisation
- To ensure VSO Operations complies with all relevant UK and International legislation, in particular IMO/ISM, with respect to the Fleet and Offshore Operations
- Recognise and drive the safety and environmental performance of the assets from within the Asset team
- Proactive management of the vessel(s) P&L, including driving improvement opportunities
- Maximise the availability and reliability of assigned assets
- Optimise maintenance and critical spares of assigned assets and work collaboratively with BU for scheduling of such periods
- Provide point of contact to BU PMT’s, or tendering teams, ensuring timely and accurate support and response to queries from a Vessel point of view
- Provide point of contact to offshore management teams for operations management and support
- Promote and develop a culture of continuous improvement within the team

- Min. Degree Holder or Senior Marine Qualification (Unlimited Class 1 Master or Class 1 Chief Engineer)
