We are looking for a Principal Digital Engineer who can join our multicultural research and development team in Aberdeen UK. Job Description

  • Supervise engineers / junior engineers, including organizing and monitoring associated work processes
  • Participate, as needed, to project reviews to ensure the technical accuracy of the intended product/tool as well as its compliance with the development specification
  • Development of digital platforms/tools to standardise and optimise the way a subsea pipeline/riser is delivered on projects. Digital platforms/tools can be related to engineering, procurement or construction activities
  • Development of engineering tools, calculation modules developed primarily in Python, but could also apply to Mathcad, Excel/VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) related to subsea pipeline in-place design activities including but not limited to wall thickness design, passive thermal design, thermo-mechanical analysis, VIV (Vortex Induced Vibration) analysis, on-bottom stability, cathodic protection, subsea pipeline/riser ancillaries design, other topics related to subsea pipeline/riser limit state design
  • Development of processes/methodologies associated with subsea pipeline in-place engineering to be implemented on actual subsea pipeline execution phases
  • Participate to the department research & development budget proposal development as well as the short/medium term department strategy development
  • Contributing to and adhering to modern software development practices, including Agile project management, source code version control and automated testing

You are meant for this job if:

  • A good degree (BEng, MEng or equivalent) in a mechanical, structural or related engineering discipline
  • Experience in subsea pipeline and/or riser engineering with a broad understanding of subsea pipeline and/or riser engineering activities as well as a good understanding of relevant design codes and recommended practices
  • Track record of using finite element software, e.g., Abaqus or OrcaFlex
  • Track record of using Mathcad
  • Proven track record of software / digital platform development
  • Working knowledge of Python for numerical applications, including experience with the scientific stack, i.e., NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib 
  • Experience with automated testing using pytest or equivalent Python framework
  • Experience with source code version control using Git and Azure DevOps or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Excel, including VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) programming
