Assistant Vessel Superintendent

Job Purpose
The Assistant Vessel Superintendent supports the Vessel Technical Superintendent in ensuring the safe and cost-effective management of the vessel’s plant and machinery, reporting to the Asset Manager. This role also involves independently managing specific projects and performing additional duties as assigned by the Vessel Technical Superintendent.
Job Description
- Assists the vessel superintendent for the provision of daily support to the vessels and assist in ensuring timely procurement of spares, maintenance of vessel inventory and maintain an overview of
- all critical spares for the vessels
- All maintenance tasks within the planned maintenance system do not exceed their due date –compliance with the MSI process
- Office/site administrative support, including technical specifications, budget control, report writing
- Review compliance with BS EN ISO 9001: 2015 and International Safety Management Code (ISM)
- Review condition monitoring reports and ensure alarms and warnings are acted upon. Review follow up actions with vessel staff and technical superintendent
- Liaise (as appropriate) with classification societies and flag states to maintain compliance to the latest rules and regulations. Ensure class surveys are undertaken before due date
- The hull / structure, tanks, all plant and machinery, permanently installed, on the vessel are maintained and fit for purpose. Assist with completing the vessel condition assessment report

- That the rules laid down by class rules for safety, environmental protection and the International management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and Pollution Prevention (ISM) are strictly
- adhered to and verified during site visits and captured in vessel visit reports
- Shall ensure that items of a technical nature captured in the Vessel Assurance are reviewed / considered and action taken if necessary
- Assist to ensure the planned maintenance routines are updated to accommodate new, modified or maintained equipment
- Provide technical, contractual and commercial advice to other inter department teams
- Comply with the Business Management System (BMS)
- Advise the technical superintendent of foreseeable contractual, commercial and technical problems that may arise
- Perform additional tasks as requested / instructed by the Vessel Technical Superintendent / Senior Manager Marine
You are meant for this job if:
- HNC / HND or degree qualified in a relevant Engineering or Project Management discipline
- Proven background of one’s own specific discipline
- The ability to react and continue to deliver results at a high standard when under pressure
- Marine related previous employment in either a practical ‘hands on / site role’ or an office-based engineering role
- STCW Marine Engineer Qualification
- As a minimum HNC / HND with proven practical marine or equipment experience
- Proven background or knowledgeable in the use of project management tools
